Basic Ladder Logic
PLC ladder logic is a programming language that allows users to create instructions for programmable logic controllers (PLCs). PLCs are used in a variety of industries to control industrial equipment and processes. One common use for PLCs is in the control of conveyor systems, including pallet sorting conveyors.
A pallet sorting conveyor system is used to sort and route pallets based on their height. This is often used in warehouses and distribution centers to ensure that pallets are delivered to the correct location for storage or shipping.
To control a pallet sorting conveyor based on pallet height, we can use PLC ladder logic to create a program that reads the height of incoming pallets and directs them to the appropriate sorting lanes.
The first step in creating this program is to set up input sensors on the conveyor belt that can measure the height of the pallets. These sensors could be ultrasonic sensors or infrared sensors, which can accurately measure the height of the pallets as they pass by on the conveyor belt.
Once the input sensors are in place, we can use PLC ladder logic to create a program that reads the height of the pallets and compares it to a set of predetermined height ranges. For example, if the pallet is between 0 and 50 inches in height, it could be directed to one side. If the pallet is between 51 and 100 inches in height, it could be directed to the other side.
To control the sorting lanes, we can use output devices such as motors or solenoids. These devices can be activated by the PLC to move the pallets to the appropriate sorting lanes.
In addition to sorting pallets based on height, we can also use PLC ladder logic to control other aspects of the conveyor system. For example, we can use the PLC to monitor the speed of the conveyor belt and adjust it as needed. We can also use the PLC to detect any problems with the conveyor system and shut it down if necessary to prevent damage or injury.
Overall, PLC ladder logic is a powerful tool for controlling pallet sorting conveyor systems. It allows us to create precise instructions for sorting and routing pallets based on their height and other characteristics, and it gives us the ability to monitor and control the conveyor system to ensure smooth and efficient operation.
PLC Ladder Logic for a Pallet Sorting Conveyor Based on Pallet Height
The video below shows the use of basic PLC ladder logic that controls a box transfer based on the height of the pallet. This a simple example to give a first-hand view to those looking to learn PLC logic for troubleshooting or for programming
Throughout the video, I will give you a detailed reason so please watch the whole video for the best knowledge share.
I hope that with the video above, you easily picked up the scope of work for this example along with how the ladder logic works.
I will be putting together more programming videos and articles upon request, I already have several ideas and will be starting to add more videos to my YouTube channel which is Shane Welcher
I would love to hear what you guys think so far as I am trying to get this website whipped into shape.
Drop me a comment here or on my YouTube channel.
