The Reason I Want To Help

My name is Shane Welcher and I have had a career in PLC and HMI programming for over 14 years working with Rockwell Automation software and also do free training outreach on my YouTube channel to help people learn how to program.

I use the best practices for industry standards to make things as successful as they can be.

My journey started when I first became an electrical apprentice then to a journeyman electrician, with little to my name and nothing but effort under my belt I have been fortunate enough to land my first supervisor role where I installed projects for two major corporations but in that time what peaked my interest was the engineering of programming the PLCs and HMIs.

With that said, I would rush to get my work done to pick their brains. This ended up landing me in a maintenance role at a Fortune 5000 company where I studied plc programming every day instead of taking breaks.

After a few years, I moved from that job to another maintenance job where I was introduced to a wider range of Rockwell Automation software so I made the best out of that but finding training seemed nearly impossible.

I later landed a great job at one of the more highly known tissue manufacturers and was fortunate enough to be mentored by some of the greatest minds in automation to date. From work directly with high up Rockwell engineers to the local engineers where I worked. Such a great experience, I ended up learning so much that they asked me to make “how-to” documents on how the software worked and the proper best practices for them….such a great task to be honored with as it taught me so much more.

After 9 years doing that, one of my close coworkers from another job I had ended up losing his job because the company downsized and he could not find work. Not because there was no work to be had but because the work that was being offered was wanted programming experience. This ended up costing him just about everything he owned until he found work close to a year later and was in a world of debt.

This was not at all my responsibility to help him but I started teaching him the ins and outs of programming and I am happy to say he is one of the lead people in controls where he currently works.

This led me to start making YouTube videos about programming with Allen Bradley software and two years later I started making PLC and HMI programming courses because I never wanted to see someone have to go through what my friend did. No one should have to worry when their next paycheck is coming from so I made it my mission to change the way I thought from getting ready to stay ready.

I highly enjoy helping people so this is why I am still doing this today. To make a difference and help as many people as I can.

I feel sure when you take my courses that you will be 10 times better than you were when you started, not having the worry on your shoulder about what you don’t know but now having the confidence to pursue whatever you wanted in PLC programming or in the field of controls.
